Improve pedestrian and road safety at Balaclava Rd entry at Berowra Public School sign now

We the undersigned request that the issues raised about road and pedestrian safety be addressed and rectified.

There are a number of reasons for these concerns;

1. There is no school zone established to slow traffic down dispute the fact the area is located at a well used direct entry point into the school grounds. An example close by that does represent appropriate school zones is at Wideview public school and St. Bernards, Berowra Heights that have recognised school zone at both the front and rear entry points of the school.

2. There is no pedestrian crossing available at “the area of concern” where both the general public heading to train and highway and school children particularly need to cross the road from where the public pathway ends at this point to access the school grounds.

3. At “the area of the concern”, car parking at school drop off and pick up times further decreases safety for those crossing at this point as it restricts vision for both pedestrians and drivers of the footpath and approaching pedestrians.

4. Further, the crossing point is at a crest of a steep hill and traffic is heavily accelerating to get up the hill.

This combined with the factors above creates a disaster waiting to happen.


We would like to invite both council and RMS to meet at this area of concern to discuss the issue, see it at first hand either at drop off or pick up times, and observe the potential for mitigating these risks. Morning is probably the best time to meet at 9 am.

Something must be done to address the safety concerns as the current status is not acceptable.

We would like to see a school zone established, implementation of parking restrictions, and a formal pedestrian crossing at the speed hump, with appropriate signage and a crossing supervisor provided as done at the top entry points of the school during school zone times.
